Maybe girls are not as valued there a boys are. Maybe they thought it was a doll. Maybe they couldn't do anything for a child that was run over twice without getting run over themselves (e.g. Beltway at rush hour).
Recently I was i several cities in China, including Beijing and Shanghai. The norm is pedestians do not enhoy right of way even if the crossing signal is green and the cars will not stop for you while turning. We were specifically warned not to take any chances and it was most scary thing in chinese roads. To save the stored electricity in the scooters, the rider will not even put on the light and they come at full speed expecting you to fend for your life. Most inhuman sight..
Another depressing thing is they do not have a sense of cleanliness in the restrooms/toilets. You do not need to ask anyone where they are, since the stinking smell will lead you there without any help from others. Pity is none of the local seems that as an issue at all.
In all other repect we enjoyed the chinese tour. It is a great country and people are really nice and friendly
