李卫东教授1989年7月毕业于兰州大学化学系，1993年12月在兰州大学获博士学位（导师：李裕林教授）。1995年9月～1998年8月间在美国哈佛（Harvard）大学化学与化学生物系师从著名有机化学家、1990年诺贝尔化学奖得主E. J. Corey教授从事博士后研究。1998年九月回国，现任兰州大学功能有机分子化学国家重点实验室副主任，教授，博士生导师；甘肃省高等学校跨世纪学科带头人，教育部首批高等院校 “长江学者奖励计划” 特聘教授。国家“有机化学创新群体”学术带头人。1995年、2001年分别荣获“国家教委科技进步贰等奖”两项；1995年获“中国化学会青年化学家奖”。1999度“国家杰出青年科学基金”、2001度“中国高校科技进步奖” 获得者。李卫东教授主要从事有机化学的教学和科学研究，专长于合成有机化学，尤其是天然产物合成化学和生物化学研究。曾参与完成了近十种大环二萜天然产物及其类似物的全合成以及天然产物Lactacystin的不对称全合成和结构与生物活性关系的研究，近年来，他以高效简洁的合成方法先后合成了 Cephalotaxine、Febrifugine、Isocelorbicol等一系列天然产物的全合成。合作发表有关学术论文六十余篇。
