Beijing, November 5 (MTI) - A search and rescue team looking for four Hungarian mountaineers who have gone missing in the Himalayas hvae reached 5,000 metres, but still there are no signs of the mountaineers, the Hungarian Consul General told MTI on Thursday morning.
The search team said they saw the mountaineers' equipment at the base camp at 4,400 metres and believe that the four Hungarians could have had an accident somewhere between 5,300 and 5,500 metres. They reported that there are no traces to be seen and the weather is still very difficult, with snow and ice falling from the cliffs.
The four mountaineers, Peter Csizmadia, Veronika Mikolovits, Balazs Pechtol and Kata Tolnay, are experienced climbers who left four China on October 7 to climb the 6,079-metre Ren Zhong Feng peak in western Sichuan, which has never been conquered. They were expected to return to Sichuan on October 31.
