Marathon is 26.2 miles running, where Triathlon has three forms of course: Olympic (1.5kS-40kB-10kR), Sprint (.5miS-12.5miB-5kR) and Distance (2.4 milesS-112 milesB-26.2 milesR).
I have tried Sprint course two years ago, and felt it is as tough as a 10K racing.
BTW, here is how I did in my marathon race:
at age 32: 4 hours 20 minutes
at age 34: 3 hours 40 minutes
at age 36: 3 hours 30 minutes (this year).
Running a marathon is easier than what you think. Here are some tips I can share with you:
1 Do a running gait analysis to buy the right shoes for you. Your pronation and arch will decide the type of your shoes.
2 Do some cross-training. You may need some strengh training of your lower body.
3 Run with your friends so that you will not lose interest.
4 In the first year, just run on treadmill so that you can control the intensity (speed and incline).
5 Drink water before and after running as much as possible. Also pay attention your nutrition.
Enjoy your running!
