It is possibly dervied from old muti-god culture. Literatures from Chunqiu Zhanguo were full of shamanism, to such extent that "zi bu yu luan li guai sheng" (kongzi never talked about weird things.)
The shamanism also appeared in earlier Egypt. And till the time of Cleopetra, the Greek culture also believed shamanism.
